Berri-UQAM.ca is an independent Montréal travel guide written by one person who lives here.
Hi, I'm Martin Decelles
I live in Montréal, hold a B.Sc. in geography, and have spent more than 15 years on the ground in Africa, Asia and Europe. Travelling that much taught me what visitors actually need: which métro stop, how long it takes, what's worth the time, and where to eat afterwards. That's what this site gives you.
I'm a Google Local Guide (Level 8); my photos on Google Maps have been viewed more than 13 million times. The photos on this site are mine, mostly taken from my bike around the city.
I also run Guide Sabbatique, which takes small groups off the beaten path in Central Africa, and I rent out a furnished apartment in Villeray for month-long stays.
How I choose places
Only places I've been to myself. When something famous isn't worth it, I say so. No business pays to be listed.

After Montréal, come see Central Africa with me
Through Guide Sabbatique I take small groups off the beaten path: Mount Cameroon, the forests and rivers of the DR Congo, the Simien Mountains of Ethiopia. I don't sell packages. I handle local contacts, logistics and safety briefings, so you can meet people, eat with them and actually live the place.
French is widely spoken in Cameroon and the DR Congo, which makes it easy for travellers from Québec and Europe.
